New Perspectives and Opportunities

New Perspectives and Opportunities
With the new year comes new perspectives and opportunities. In Foxen Canyon, we are seeing the cool and rainy winter lighting up our mountains and mesa tops with a fresh shade of green, lighting the way for the mustard and poppy flowers of Spring. In the vineyard, the rain is producing healthy cover crops that will balance the soils in preparation for the 2019 vintage.

New perspectives have been an emerging theme with our wines the past several vintages. Our winemaker, Kristin Bryden, embodies that spirit. Kristin joined Zaca Mesa in 2011 and rose to winemaker in 2016. She’s ascended into the tradition of great Zaca Mesa winemakers, setting new standards of excellence along the way.

This year, Kristin will be honored as one of four featured ‘Rhône Ranger’ winemakers at the Women Chefs & Restauranteurs’ ‘Immigration of Flavor’ dinner celebrating International Women’s Day, at the James Beard House in New York City on Friday March 8th. The dinner features five international-themed courses from celebrated female chefs paired with Rhône varietal wines from celebrated female winemakers. It’s exciting recognition for an esteemed member of the Zaca Mesa winemaking legacy, on top of the recent critical acclaim for wines such as our Syrah’s from the 2015 vintage (Eight Barrel, Estrella & Amphora), our Bien Nacido Pinot Noir, and our new 2016 Inceptive (among many others).

Closer to home, Kristin will host a winemaker dinner on Monday February 25th in Redondo Beach at the venerable Chez Melange, with more events on the horizon in the Spring. Come out and see what’s new, and say hello to Kristin!
